Todays Visitors to our Centre

We were very happy to recieve some visitors to our centre today. We were treated to a quick kapa haka recital before the group went on to perform at Richmond Primary School.
The children really enjoyed watching the performance and we have seen some keen poi action happening all morning as a result.  The group was competing in the 2015 Ngati Kahungungu kapa haka festival.photo

New Resources

We are so pleased to show you our new lightbox that we have purchased from the fundraising last term. Our disco and sausage sizzle helped buy us this wonderful new lightbox that has gone into the three year old room. We have seen some amazing play with it already.

The light box will move around from room to room, so your child will get to use this valuble piece of equipment.

Also - we were thrilled to have been donated this set of foam blocks.

The blocks were a giveaway from Space Magazine. We were drawn randomly, but are very grateful. These blocks are going into our outdoor area for all the children to use.

Profile Books!

Wow! What a resurgence of interest we have had in our profile books, since we asked for the children's pepehas. The teachers are loving discovering the links with your children's whakapapas.
Our teachers will work hard to incorporate the pepeha into our learning stories, so please check back frequently to see how we are doing. Remember, this is new learning for some of us, so any kind suggestions would be welcomed.

If you see this form in your portfolio, have a go at filling it out. The teachers can try and help you fill any gaps.

Our trip to Pukimokimoki Marae

We are very excited to announce we have been invited to spend the night at our local marae. Pukimokimoki is a teaching marae, provided by the Napier City Council. Schools and kindergartens are regularly invited to visit. This year, we have decided to have an overnight stay. We will need lots of parent helpers.

Itinerary: 11:45: Meet outside the marae. We will be welcomed on with a formal powhiri. Women/girls please wear a full length long black skirt/dress.

12:00/12:30: Formal welcomes and waiata. Our children have been practising their waiata to share with our hots. Please ask them to sing to you!

12:30 - 5:30: Lots of games, and freeplay.

5:30: Dinner, prepared by our hosts.

6:30: Lily's learning centre talent show!

7:30: Freeplay, and bed when you are ready.

 Gardening with the Children

There has been a rivival of interest in our vegetable garden patch today, sparked by a story we read at morning mat time. Lucas and Gorja made the connection between the illustrations in the book and our own raised bed.

As you can see, it is looking fairly neglected, and unkempt. A team of our children spent the morning with trowels working the soil. We are wondering if we have any expert parents who would come in and plant some vegetables with the children, and perhaps teach the teachers how to take care of it?
We are hoping for this!

Come along and have some laughs and pick up some tips!!!

Special Toys: A reminder to parents that while special toys are permitted to come along with your child, we can take no responsibility for their loss. We do our upmost to keep special toys safe, but occasionally, they can and do go missing.

If it needs reapplying through the day, the teachers will do this for you.

We love receiving these items, please leave any collected treasures on our science table, after they have been thoroughly inspected by our budding scientists, they will get reassigned to different areas around the centre, Check out our art table, where the children have been experimenting with paint and feathers.
